Many Thanks and Work Days

Here’s a very brief report of our progress, a party invitation, and a list of our play days:

Since our 2008 inception we have delivered 1,264 blankets to HOPE Community Homeless Shelter. Most of those were handmade from donated fabric. We’ve also given 85 blankets to the PAEC Migrant Farm Worker Summer Day Care Program. 2015 will be our third Summer of giving to PAEC. In past years we also donated to other local organizations which provide emergency support.

We are pleased to report that through the kindness of Dr Carla Hutchinson and her staff, we still have a home at ARTS After School. They have broken ground and are building a new facility on Weims Rd. We are grateful and appreciative that they’re including us in their plans. We’ll be moving sometime over the Summer and will keep our local volunteers in the know.

A special thanks to Quilter’s Unlimited of Tallahassee, The Tallahassee Senior Center, and the Mission Quilters of Epiphany Lutheran Church for their continued support in the form of sewing and creating blankets for children in need. We would not have been able to give the numbers of blankets we have if not for your hard work and dedication. Thank you also to all our volunteers who show up month after month, and perform any task that’s asked of them — always with a smile and sometimes with poetry and a song.

For many months now Sew for HOPE has been donating fabric to the Leon County Jail Project. This program teaches women to sew. Then they make quilts for: Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Pediatric Unit, Shriners, Seven Hills Rehab Center; just to name a few. Lately there have been women who, after being released from jail, expressed a desire to continue this philanthropic sewing and make blankets for Sew for HOPE. Most of our helpers are maxing out their available volunteer time, so we are looking for a few good women who would work one-on-one with these special volunteers to get fabric and supplies to them and to pick up finished quilts. This would be just until they get their feet on the ground and get transportation. Thank you for your consideration.
