Hello Dear Friends,
As always, we meet at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 2198 N Meridian Rd., from 10 am until 2 pm. Brown bag lunch with Sew and Tell at 11:30 am. Next meeting dates are March 19th, April 2nd and April 16th.
Thanks to our dedicated stitchers and the wonderful volunteers at Quilters Unlimited, we have made stupendous progress on the PAEC Pre-K and nursery blankets. The deadline to turn in completed nap-time coverlets to us is at our 5/21/22 meeting at St. Stephen’s.
Yay! At the present moment, HOPE Community Shelter has ample quilts to give to newly arriving HOPE kids. We are feeling good and can take a breather.
At our last meeting, Marty donated a super cute scrappy quilt. We all got excited and decided to treat ourselves to a “scrapfest.” For both of our April meetings, Marty has graciously offered to teach us how she makes her math-free, stress-free, scrappy quilt blocks and tops.
My favorite is scrappy blocks and I got so excited, I jumped the gun. I decided we should work on scrappy at our Saturday, 3/19 meeting, too! We already have cut squares, cut strips and lots of smaller fabric pieces we can cut into. We are going to make 12 ½ inch square log cabin blocks. As Marty’s blocks use even smaller pieces of fabric, we’ll be saving our scraps for the two April meetings.
Supplies to bring along to all three sessions:
- Portable sewing machine
- Bone folder or creaser or you can finger-press
- 5 inch cutting ruler to 3/19 meeting
- 5 inch cutting ruler to 4/2 and 4/16 meeting
- Small, self-healing cutting mat.
Bring scraps to Marty’s sessions.
If you would like to join us for sewing fellowship but hate making scrappy blocks, don’t stay away. You can help iron, organize fabric, put fabric away, make an easy PAEC coverlet, or work on your own philanthropic quilting.
It wasn’t easy for me to knit two different meeting types together while remaining brief, so if you have any questions, shoot me a quick email.
Thanks for all you do,
Cynthia and her Sew for Hope Sisters
