Greetings quilting friends,
In September we will meet on the 7th and the 21st from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm at St. Stephen Lutheran Church located at 2198 North Meridian Road. Bring your lunch to enjoy and your projects for Show and Tell at noon. Stay as long as you like, leave when you must.
Labor Day is coming up next week, and I am reminded of pictures from the early 1900s of women and children working in textile mills. These days most textiles are made overseas. Here’s an amazing work of art depicting mill life in Asia that you may view here: https://madmuseum.org/learn/portrait-textile-worker-2005. This quilt is made from 30,000 textile labels that took over 2 years to construct. (Our terrific newsletter editor won’t let me include copyrighted pix, so you’ll have to use the link, lol.)
In other news, Cynthia thoughtfully gave me the name of a person who was interested in providing labor to build us some custom shelves. Austin Mahon is owner of 89DELTA, and they do construction, renovation and handyman projects. I met with him at St. Stephen and he will be touching base again in a couple of weeks to “nail down” the details. What a wonderful opportunity! I was so excited that I hugged his neck!
So we’ll probably be reorganizing everything in October, but I’ll keep you posted as to the particulars. In the meantime, we’ll just keep working on our projects.
Hugs until next time,
Sandra and her sewing sisters
P.S. Don’t forget the Quilters Unlimited quilt show this weekend! https://www.quilttallahassee.com/qu24show/
